Rock 'n Roll Down Fremont Street
Jul 20, 2010
Summer in Las Vegas just got a little sweeter with the “Summer of the ‘70s” concert series line-up at Fremont Street Experience. Through Labor Day weekend, the action in the downtown pedestrian promenade kicks up to the sounds of Styx, Little River Band, Blue Oyster Cult, even Jefferson Starship in tributes and retro rock concerts that bring it all back home.
The program follows last year’s “Summer of ‘69” smash series that drew record crowds into the sultry Vegas nights and this year’s roster kicked off with no less fanfare as Gloria Gaynor took to the outdoor soundstage for a free concert, summoning her hit, “I Will Survive.”
The headliner schedule runs through September 4 on performance stages placed at 1st Street and 3rd Street and Fremont.
Little River Band - July 3 for Fourth of July Weekend (Lady, Lonesome Loser, Reminiscing, Cool Change)
Blue Oyster Cult - August 14 for Hot Rockin’ Weekend (Don’t Fear) the Reaper, Burnin’ For You, Godzilla)
Jefferson Starship – September 4 for Labor Day Weekend (White Rabbit, Don’t You Want Somebody to Love, Miracles, Jane, Count on Me, Ride the Tiger)
Tribute Performances include:
Heart Alive – Heart tribute – July 27-31 (www.heartaliverocks.com)
Wild Heart – Fleetwood Mac tribute – August 3-7 (www.wildheartrocks.com)
Escape – Journey tribute – August 17-21 (www.keytarmusic.com/escape.htm)
Satisfaction – The Rolling Stones tribute – August 24-28 (www.rollingstoneshow.com)
Fremont Street Experience will also mix in musical nods to such groups as Eagles, KISS, Deep Purple, Journey, AC/DC, Foreigner, Boston, Led Zeppelin, and Van Halen. The tribute bands will play Tuesdays through Saturdays nightly on the 3rd Street Stage.
But what’s a summer in Vegas without Elvis?
To answer the call, “Summer of the ’70s” is hosting an Ultimate Elvis Weekend, featuring the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest on July 23 and July 24. Sanctioned by Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. (EPE) and managed by On Stage Touring, producers of “Legends in Concert,” Ultimate Elvis Tribute competitors will be judged on the “best re
