Foothills Middle School Reviews

Great leadership skills in all grades in the middle school. My son a graduating senior decided to write a thesis about how he became a successful student and accredited FMS ans particularly one math teacher for his 'career' as a student. He is a straight A student and is going to USC with an accademic scholarship. Great music program, does need more leadership in the band though.. my freshman son is elated with the AHS marching band... but the school did keep him interested long enough to be in THE best high school marching band probably on the West coast. :)

Teachers focused on school and not kids. Music program has suffered greatly since Mrs. Ragusa left. New teachers are inexperienced and have an advesarial relationship with students. Would not recommend the school.

My son attended FMS seven years ago. Since the former principal retired, the school is not the same. They had a great music program, but without the support of the principal, it is not the high quality program it was. I also do not feel she supports parents or students.

The school's curriculum has changed from an excellent school to a soso school.

This school is the best school I have ever been to. Telling this from a kid's point of view, I would like to say that there are many great extra curricular activities, and all of the teachers are extremely helpful. I was a new kid, and by the end of the school-year, I was part of the ASB, which gives you an idea of how open the society is.Overall, this is a great school, and you would definitely want to consider sending your child here. -Former Student, Lina V

Foothils is an outstanding middle school. I have no major complaints, although, as with any school, one can alwys nit-pick about a particular teacher or class content. The majority population is Chinese, and most of the kids are highly motivated to achieve great grades. Many are in advanced classes. Our son was in honors geometry in the 8th grade and that's about the 'norm' for this school (I didn't take geometry until 10th grade FYI). The potential downside is that if your child is not Asian, they may feel a little left out of the 'clan,' but if they are good students, they will fit in. The potential upside is that when surronded by high acheivers, one tends to emulate their peers.

Both my daughters attended FMS. It's a great school, well run, staffed by competent experienced teachers and supported by a loyal core of parent volunteers. My girls were well prepared for high school. Further, FMS has a great array of extracurriculars including drill team, band, intra mural sports etc. that add to the positive environment.
