Ivanhoe Elementary School Reviews

There is minimal teacher support for struggling students.

I love this school! My kids have all loved this school. It's a like the little engine that could.

Ivanhoe is an absolutely great school. It's a very diverse environment, and the children receive the best education they can. I love how the community is very involved and how the children learn to become accepting and smart individuals.

Excellent school! We just moved here from San Diego and were worried about the education in LA Unified schools. Ivanhoe is testing out a new method of math learning called Singapore Math to the first graders. I'm so happy we chose this school. It's impressive!

Ivanhoe's parent involvment is tremendous. With little funding, Friends of Ivanhoe works really hard to make up for what is lacking at other schools. Love the tight knit community. Great teachers support staff.

Your years at Ivanhoe will be happy. The community is very accepting.

Ivanhoe is an oasis. The staff work together well and the administrator is supportive which means the children benefit. The student population is extremely diverse, both ethnically and economically. The surrounding community of Silver Lake provides great support to its neighborhood school. The academics are tough, yet creative. The school has excellent arts instruction and programs. The level of parent involvement is high. The parents raise money to support extra music teacher days, arts programs, p.e. teachers, and other support for the educational program. Both my children had good experiences at Ivanhoe.

Ivanhoe rates the very best school in the city (rated just behind Wonderland in Laurel Canyon). Excellent diversity, excellent curriculum, additional programs like karate through private funding. Because of its diversity and parent involvement, I favor Ivanhoe as the best school in LA.

Ivanhoe is unusual in that it offers a School for Advanced Studies program that is included in the regular classrooms. The school follows the usual LAUSD format of Open Court reading, and is fairly academically driven, with lots of worksheets given. The teacher quality varies. The active PTA raises money for physical education and library books, and hosts monthly events throughout the year, such as silent auctions, jogathons, film nights. Art classes are offered as well as music. The after school program, Camelot, is located on the grounds and is instrumental in helping the school. They provide an exciting and varied program of activities.

Great school. Wonderful teachers. Staff is very knowledgable. Other parents are nice. Children seem very happy, and great friendships are started.

Very nice school. I am proud to have my daughter attend this school.

Ivanhoe is an excellent school. The standards are high. The population is diverse. The parent involvement is also excellent.

Ivanhoe is a terrific public elementary. The downside is the emphasis on testing (problem with all public schools). But the teachers, parent body and students are wonderful. Everyone works together to make this a truly wonderful public school experience.

A quality school in an idyllic environment. The 'Camelot' after school program offers karate, filmmaking, dance, art, chess, woodworking and much more. Teachers are by and large excellent. And parents work very closely with the teachers and administration to create a positive learning experience for the children.

Ivanhoe Elementary is one of THE BEST public elementary schools in the L.A. area. The level of parental involvement at this school is almost unparalleled, I believe. My daughter's 1st/2nd grade class had at least 2 volunteers every day which is awesome since it allowed their teacher to do so much more with the kids. All of the teachers that my daughter had for the last 2 years were excellent; I think a special mention should be made for Mr. Santiesteban (the kids call him Sr. Carlos). The amount of material and learning this man got into a single class day while maintaining complete control of the classroom was amazing; and this was with a 1/2 day kinder class! The music teacher, Mr. Bockelman was also of my child's favorites. She looked forward to going music class every week. Each grade goes to P.E., Music, & Art on a rotating 6week schedule.
