The level of parent involvement is high. The parents raise money to support extra music teacher days, arts programs, p.e. teachers, and other support for the educational program. The school follows the usual LAUSD format of Open Court reading, and is fairly academically driven, with lots of worksheets given. The teacher quality varies. The active PTA raises money for physical education and library books, and hosts monthly events throughout the year, such as silent auctions, jogathons, film nights. Art classes are offered as well as music. The level of parental involvement at this school is almost unparalleled, I believe. My daughter's 1st/2nd grade class had at least 2 volunteers every day which is awesome since it allowed their teacher to do so much more with the kids. All of the teachers that my daughter had for the last 2 years were excellent; I think a special mention should be made for Mr. Santiesteban (the kids call him Sr. Carlos). The amount of material and learning this man got into a single class day while maintaining complete control of the classroom was amazing; and this was with a 1/2 day kinder class! The music teacher, Mr. Bockelman was also of my child's favorites. She looked forward to going music class every week.Each grade goes to P.E., Music, & Art on a rotating 6week schedule.”
