Florence Griffith Joyner Elementary School Reviews

I moved recently and I wanted to check out the test scores for my son's new home school which will now be in LBUSD. I was very disappointed to see that Griffith-Joyner only received 2 out of 10 on the great schools rating. It really gives a misperception of the school in general. This elementary has more staff than any other school I ever attended or visited. The faculty and parent volunteers really care about the students and have their best interest at heart. My son attended this school for kindergarten and first grade. Mrs. Black was absolutley wonderful! and Mrs. Hall was good as well. The afterschool program L.A.'s Best is also great and hopefully is able to continue. Parent participation is extremely important! I agree with the previous comment, if parent participation goes up so will the test scores. Then maybe the school can get the rating it deserves!

Overall this is a great school with great potential. There are many adults on this campus that care for the students and their well being. There needs to be more parents involved with the academics of each and every child, not the behavior, which tends to be the biggest issue. Test scores would go up a lot more if there was more home discipline from the parents. Once the parents recognize the potential of the child the child will see it too and do a lot better in school. There are activities set up where the students can be active mentally and physically. Parent participation would really do this school some good. Parent participation goes up academics will definately go up.
