Alice C. Stelle Middle School Reviews

great school ! and has the bestest pricabale ever !!! who mrs.sinsurk u rock

This is a beautiful school inside and out. My son is in special ed for add, and the sped staff has always had my son's intrests in mind. When they called our first meeting, I was shocked to see every one of his teachers sitting around the table ready to give me their insightful feedback on what would work best for him. The teachers are wonderful, but I think the kids there are the best thing. My son has the greatest friends, and always looks forward to school, even though he sometimes struggles academically. Last year (6th)was difficult as an adjustment year. I looked for signs of him losing faith, but he's never uttered the words, 'I don't want to go to school today, mom,' and I credit the school for that. This year, I have signed up with yourhomework.com and now I get emails every day listing his work.

My son spent three very good years at AC Stelle. We felt Mrs. Sistrunk ran a tight ship and did a very good job setting the tone for the school. Funny that a previous poster felt too much money was spent on Special Education as my son had his core classes in the program. I will say if the rest of LVUSD had the quality of teachers my son had in Special Ed, then the district would be perfect. Mrs. Schrieber was so wonderful and she really got it that these kids are intelligent and bright, they just don't learn the same way the GATE kids learn. If anything the schools in general have a teaching disability as opposed to the kids having a learning disability. Only complaint would be the lack of actual physical activity in PE and the abudence of paper/homework given in the place of actually running/playing/sports.

Great school is your children get the right teachers. Mrs. Coleman in sixth-fabulous GATE teacher, Mrs. Hepps-outstanding English teacher, Mr. Beutel and Mr. Johnson-great science teachers but awful class sizes, Mr. Kane and Mrs. Andrews in 8th GAte-fantastic, Mrs. Asher-wonderful math teacher, Mrs. Sistrunk the principal, nice woman who will listen to you but always pulls the political agenda, Mrs. Baron and Mrs. White in counseling are easy to work with and usually give parents what they want, too much money spent on spec ed and regular classes suffer

If your child is gifted, keep him or her out of the GATE classes in 6th and 7th grade (too much arts and crafts and little substance). The regular teachers are wonderful! Enroll your gifted child in 8th grade program-great teachers who are talented and really know their subject area. My children have learned so much in 8th grade. Awful class sizes.

I am disappointed with the high class size. The teachers are a mixed bag...a few really awful ones and a few very talented. Thank goodness the advanced class teachers in 8th grade are talented and really prepare students for high school (Ms. Andrews in English, Mr. Kane in history, Ms. Asher in algebra). I recommend that parents attend the PFC meetings to get you voice heard.

The school has great test scores because of the overall quality of students. I have encountered some of the worst teachers at this school. Some are exceedingly disorganized and scatterbrained. At the same time, some teachers are very good and really care about the students and are gifted at the art of teaching.

This is a wonderful school--with a few caveats--it does greatly depend on who your child's teacher is. The more advanced classes do not necessarily have the best teachers. The advanced classes, however, are your best bet in terms of preparing your child for high school. Mr Kane-great. Mrs. Asher--great. The music program is wonderful, however you have to make the horrible choice between music and a foreign language! Parent participation is high. The classes are very overcrowded--hey, it's a public school! But, as far as public schools go, it's as good as it gets.

My child (a GATE and maths honn. student) has been at AC Stelle since its opening (three years ago). We feel very fortunate to have him there. 8th. grade is almost over and our child is going to miss the cosiness, warmth and cleaness of ACS. We have been very happy with the ecxellence of most of the teachers, especially in math. Less satisfied with the English teachers though, especially in 7th. and 8th. grades. French is not taught anymore in ACS only Spanish. This has been our biggest disapointment. On a positive note: no bullying, no drugs, none of this bad experiences ever heard of. We are from Europe, living here for 15 years, the only one I heard criticising the local schools are our neighbours from Woodland Hills! (The city next door!) The Principal, Mrs. Sistrunk is wonderful.

The teachers and staff at A.C. Stelle are all very good and they are experienced, and they know what their doing. The only problem at A.C. Stelle is that the principal does not jump in and talk to the kids one-on-one. This lack of authority makes our principal seem weak and uncapable of the difficult task of being a principal. Our principal needs to understand the tasks of being a principal, and act upon those needs before she can take leadership over our school. A.C. Stelle has many extracurricular activities such as choir, band, art, French, Spanish, computers, tech lab, and many more. All of the extracurricular activity teachers are well trained in what they do, and it shows. Overall A.C.Stelle is a great school with room for improvement.
